Air Canada offers corporate customers and cargo freight forwarders the opportunity to purchase Scope 3 environmental attributes associated with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), carbon offset credits or a combination of both related to their own business air travel or cargo shipments on Air Canada.
The Leave Less Travel Program consists of four steps:
Air Canada tracks and calculates the estimated GHG emissions associated with a customer’s business travel or freight transportation.
A corporate or cargo freight customer selects environmental attributes (SAF), carbon offset credits (through Chooose) or both.
A corporate or cargo freight customer purchases environmental attributes (SAF) and/or carbon offset credits (through Chooose). Air Canada then issues a Leave Less Travel Program certificate.
Corporate or cargo freight customers are then able to contribute to their own GHG reduction goals.
Environmental attributes associated with SAF refer to the reduced environmental impacts of using SAF, such as the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions avoided by not extracting non-renewable resources like crude oil (used to make conventional jet fuel). These environmental attributes result from Air Canada using SAF instead of conventional jet fuel, helping to reduce customer’s scope 3 GHG emissions. These are the indirect GHG emissions that result from activities not directly controlled by customers but related to their activities and consumption habits. For example: passenger emissions related to air travel.

Carbon offsetting is a term used to describe a mechanism through which individuals and organizations can help support certified third-party projects that contribute to the removal or avoidance of GHG emissions around the world.
Certified projects issue carbon credits. Each carbon credit, carbon offset, or emission reduction unit aims to represent a single unit of GHG emissions that is avoided or removed from the atmosphere or the carbon life cycle.
